The Killers

We have chosen to produce a music video for 'Mr Brightside' by The Killers for our final music video.
The band have previously belonged to Vertigo Records, Marrakesh Records and most recently the worldwide record label Island Records, Being publicised by three major record companies could have contributed to their success and is bound to give them more success than belonging to one independent label.
The name of their last album was released in 2008 titled 'Day & Age' and the next album is due to be released late 2012.
In many ways The Killers have been designed to have mass appeal which is mostly down to their worldwide record label. Before they were signed to Island Records they belonged to an independent record label and were only known in Las Vegas where the band was originally formed. The release of a compilation album and a DVD of a live show at The Royal Albert Hall could also have helped to make the band more famous.

Looking at the images the band look like they are in their early to mid 20s. The most good looking man from the band is bigger than the rest if the band members in the larger picture which could be because he is the lead singer or it could be because this may make the band appeal to girls. the images represent them as dominant males because they are usually long shots of them standing side by side dressed similarly.

Possible Genre

My group are looking at the indie genre and we have been thinking about producing a music video for The Killers. We have chosen The Killers as we really like their songs and we want to do 'Mr Brightside' but we are still thinking about it as the lead vocalist is a male and there are no males in our group and we don't want to use any as we do not think they will be as committed as us.

Preliminary Task

We have finally finished filming and editing our prelim exercise which took a bit more than a week to complete, The song we chose to do was Lenka - The Show because it has several different shooting locations. Each person in the group lip synced lines from a different scene from the video. This helped us decide who would be best at lip syncing for our final music video. Below is our completed Prelim task

What Is a British Film?

I think a British film is a film set in a British neighbourhood or area with British actors and British producers. I also think a British film is released through a British network not American. I do not have a favourite British film and do not seek them as I prefer American films because their accents sound better and British films are cheesier.

An Iconic Sixties film- Breakfast at Tiffanys (1961) 

This film helped to kick off Audrey Hepburns career and was a romcom film which won two Oscars. It was certified as PG and was directed by Blake Edwards.

A film that represents women- Titanic

This film represents women as the caring and weaker gender as they are expected to board the lifeboats at the end while the men have to stay behind. KateWinslet represents women as selfish because she did not move up when she was on the board when there was plenty of space. the running time is 194 minutes. the film was directed by James Cameron and the lead actors included Kate Winslet and Leonardo Di Caprio and the film is a 12A.

A British comedy- The Inbetweeners Movie

This film was number one in the British box office beating the likes of The Hangover Part 2 and was directed by Ben Palmer. the running time is 97 minutes and the lead actors are the 4 boys from the tv series. this film was certified as a 15.

A British horror film- The Torment
