Below is a print screen of the email we sent to RCA Records informing them of our intentions of using the song 'I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker' by Sandi Thom which was produced by RCA Records, We also recorded a vlog summarising our email.

Inspirational Video- Split Screen Editing
I recently came across this John Lewis ad which has some split screen scenes and shows two different time periods in the different screens, This would be a good technique to use in my music video as it is based on two time periods and the differences would be easier to spot from the two periods but the editing may get tricky when trying to match the two scenes up perfectly.
Below is another example of a split screen ad but the two different screens are shot in two different countries instead of time periods.

Possible Mise-en-scene
Below is a graph displaying the possible clothing/ props we were thinking of including in our music video. We want to contrast the two time periods of the 70s hippie period and the modern day technological period together by using completely different props to show how much things have changed.
Mise En Scene | |
Hippy Ripped shorts Maxi skirts Baggy top Headband on top of hair Guitar Flower in hair Letters instead of email/texts Bright colours | Modern Casual clothing e.g jeans Peace sign on a necklace-small bit of the 70s still present Mobile phone Dull colours eg grey and darker colours |
Inspirational Video- Lana Del Ray- National Anthem
We were thinking about having the edges of our video rounded off so it looks old fashioned as this will relate to the time period of parts of our video which is between the 60s and 70s, The 'National Anthem' video below is an example of this effect. This effect has also been described as a vintage effect montage video.
Final Song Choice
Sandi Thom- I wish I was a punk rocker
Our final song choice is I wish I was a punk rocker by Sandi Thom because we like the beat of the song, She is not a very known artist and the song is sang by a female vocalist, below is the official music video and the lyrics to the song.
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
In 77 and 69 revolution was in the air
I was born too late into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
When the head of state didn't play guitar,
Not everybody drove a car,
When music really mattered and when radio was king,
When accountants didn't have control
And the media couldn't buy your soul
And computers were still scary and we didn’t know everything
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
In 77 and 69 revolution was in the air
I was born too late into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
When pop-stars still remained a myth
And ignorance could still be bliss
And when God Saved the Queen she turned a whiter shade of pale
When my mom and dad were in their teens
And anarchy was still a dream
And the only way to stay in touch was a letter in the mail
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
In 77 and 69 revolution was in the air
I was born too late into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
When record shops were still on top
And vinyl was all that they stocked
And the super info highway was still drifting out in space
Kids were wearing hand me downs,
And playing games meant kick around
And footballers still had long hair and dirt across their face
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
In 77 and 69 revolution was in the air
I was born too late into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
I was born too late to a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair

Song Choice
Idea 1: Mr Brightside- The Killers
At first we wanted to create a music video for 'Mr Brightside' by The Killers but we soon realised there were too many complications relating to our choice of song so we had to think of another song to base our music video on. Below is the original music video for this song and the positive and negative things about creating a music video for 'Mr Brightside'.
Idea 2: Foundations- Kate Nash
Our second idea was to create a music video for the song 'Foundations' by Kate Nash but then we realised although the song included a female vocalist there were also many disadvantages. Below is the official music video for 'Foundations' as well as the positive and negative things we thought of the video.
Idea 3: I Wish I Could Keep You- Little Pictures
We recently came up with the idea of using a song from a very unknown indie pop band for our music video as we think this has more benefits and we have more of a chance of making the song our own. The song we have chosen does not have currently have a music video, below is an mp3 link to the song and the positive and negative things we thought of the song.
