Filming Today

Today I filmed the artist in front of a green screen background. We filmed a mid shot of the artist answering a telephone and she is surrounded by several mobile phones which represents the technological themes and highlights the different ways in which society as a whole uses technology and how important it is. We are planning to add a rural mise-en-scene to the shot in order to contrast the ideas of technology with nature and to point out that technology wasn't once as important as it is now.

Digipak

Below is my finished digipak which I produced using Microsoft Powerpoint. I used screenshots from my music video for the different panels and I used a font which looks handwritten to represent the old fashioned way of writing and I think it makes the digipak look more vintage or retro. I also used a variety of photos representing technology and nature like the 'Boris bikes' and the field to represent the themes highlighted throughout my music video.

In addition I included photos of the artist, holographic stickers, ISBN numbers and several other conventions in order to make my digipak look more professional. Below is a digital version of my digipak and a vlog explaining each panel.

Filming In London

Below is an image of my group mindmapping and coming up with ideas of what we planned on filming for the urban part of the music video. We brought the sheet of paper with our planned shots and ideas and ticked the ideas off that we used.

Today my group and I went to Covent Garden in order to film the urban part of our video. We managed to get some panning shots, some cutaway shots as well as some long shots of the artist with a telephone box which reflects the rural period we are addressing.

1 Minute of Footage

Today I edited more of the rural part of my music video and added various cutaway shots such as a swimming duck which makes my music video more choppy. I am looking forward to going out and filming more of the urban part of the music video as it will mean that I am one step closer to finishing my video. Below is a quick vlog explaining my video so far as well as a photo of my group editting.

Band Name: Daisy + The Chains

My group and I have finally come to a conclusion regarding our band name, We have chosen the name Daisy & The Chains for various reasons. We have chosen this name as it juxtaposes the themes of our music video which is nature contrasted with technology. The chains refer to the restricted access to nature due to the advanced technology available today. Also Daisy & The Chains grabs the audience's attention and is similar to band names such as Florence + The Machine and Marina & The Diamonds which focuses on the artist and the audience which forms a special bond between them. In the end we decided not to have a persons name as it didn't sound as interesting as a more creative name like Daisy + The Chains.

Inspirational Music Video

I just watched this music video

I thought it was inspiring as there were many signifier and signified codes which conform to Barthe's theory. The voyeuristic video includes computer generated graphics, special effects and is partly based on concept and animations (the animal costumes)
The focus pull of the motorcycle signified how blurry her life was and the change in the quality of her life since she quit her job.
The hippy concept of the hypnotising wind shield signify the hippy atmosphere which relates to the theme of my music video.
Below are some of the shots which I found interesting...

The low angle shot represents the artist as superior as she is the focus of the shot. 7

Digipak Design

Above are some photos from my music video which I was planning on using for my digipak. I need to edit them on paint or photoshop and add some shots from other shooting locations.

I plan to use this image on the second panel of my digipak and I want to include a thank you message from the artist to her fans somewhere in the frame to show how grateful she is and to show that she likes to interact with her fans. I really like the framing of this shot as it focuses on both the green rural scenery in the background as well as the singer positioned in the foreground and in the centre of the shot. Also it looks like the singer is enjoying the nature surrounding her which contrasts with the urban part of the music video which I plan to include on the opposite panel in order to highlight the binary oppositions of the urban and rural themes.

I would like to include this image in my digipak as the sheep in the background reflect the natural theme of the music video and also show that the artist is interacting with nature which is very different to the urbanisation of the cars and grey buildings.

I would like to use an image of the guitar in my digipak as it represents the singer as a carefree character who enjoys music. Also I think that the guitar symbolises the idea of music never going out of fashion and the idea of music fitting in in both rural and urban locations. Also the guitar is a key part of the mise-en-scene throughout my music video and gives the audience a taste of what is included in the music video which is another reason why I plan on using it. I have thought about including the guitar in an old fashioned polaroid shot as it informs the the audience of the relevance of the guitar both in the past and present day.
I would like to use one of these two shots on my fourth panel as I like the framing on the artist in the centre of the forest as well as the colour of the branches. I like the shot of the artist looking behind her because it looks as if she is reminiscing and trying to remember nature as if it is in the past. However the shot of her facing the front looks as if she is trying to look into the future to find that technology is taking over and is more dominant than nature.

Another shot I am planning on using in my music video is this shot of the artist walking out of the telephone box which symbolises the old fashioned aspect of the video and it also insinuates the idea that artist doesn't rely on smartphones like today's society. I also think it would be a good idea to have this shot reversed at the end to represent society going back in time and not depending so much on technology any more.

Audience feedback Results

I have recorded my audience feedback using both quantitative and qualitative data. I have created charts for the quantitative data and I have taken note on what to include in my music video...

I also took note of the qualitative data and I have listed what the target audience would like to see below.
The eighth question asks the audience if they could associate any specific themes with a music video based on nature or technology.
The responses I received for technology were:
  • Low Key Artificial Lighting
  • Computers
  • Abstract Graphics
  • Electricity
  • Televisions
  • Phones
  • Metallic and Fluorescent Colours
  • Robots
  • Lasers
  • Flashing Lights
  • Shock FX
  • Traffic Lights
The responses I received for a music video based on nature were:
  • Ambient Colours
  • High Key Lighting i.e green, sky blue, yellow
  • Rural Settings i.e woods, forest
  • Villagers
  • Plants, Flowers
  • Animals, Bugs, Insects
  • Leaves, Parks, Trees
  • Squirrels
