Laura Mulvery stated that because film makers are predominately male, the presence of women in film is often for the sole purpose of display.
The purpose of this display is to facilitate a voyeuristic response which presumes a 'male gaze' (regardless of gender of spectator). This male gaze is one that may feel like a powerful controlling gaze at the female on display.
Below is the official music video to Videophone by Beyonce ft Lady GaGa. The video is very voyeuristic and presumes the male gaze as the women are dressed very provocatively showing little to the imagination, In reality it is obvious that the video is primarily aimed at men more than women which is evident through the scantily outfits that the women are seen wearing. Also the video was produced by several males and views women in favour of them.
Below is another music video which is in favour of the 'male gaze'.
